Marble Rock, Iowa — Geraldine Bruggeman, 86, formerly of Marble Rock, died on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marble Rock, with Pastor Bob Scheurer officiating. Burial will be in the Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St., Greene, and will continue at the church one hour before services on Saturday.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Marble Rock, Iowa 50653.

Geraldine Reints was born in Clarksville, Butler County, Iowa, on September 15, 1926, the daughter of William John and Etjedina (Reints) Reints and died on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Gerry received her education in country school and graduated from Clarksville High School in 1943. She received her teaching certificate from at Wartburg College in Waverly and obtained her BA Teaching degree from UNI. Once a teacher she taught school in Plainfield for one year in a one room school house. Gerry's life was dedicated to educating young people. She taught school at RRMR for 45 years before retiring in1991.

Gerry was united in marriage to Melbourne Lowell. Bruggeman on August 4, 1949, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarksville. This union was blessed with two children, Deb and Doug. The family moved to Greene where they farmed until settling in Marble Rock where they made their home.

She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she served with the WELCA and was on the church council. Gerry was interested in gardening, was a member of the Marble Rock Historical Society, served on the Marble Rock Library Board, and was a tutor. She was a very social person who especially enjoyed the after church coffees at her home.

Living family members include her children: Deb (Terry) Hammer of Cedar Rapids, Doug (Cindy) Bruggeman, Rochester, Minnesota; five grandchildren: Brennan Hammer, Sarah Bruggeman, Tara (Justin) Schlake, Jared Bruggeman and Jordan Bruggeman; four great-grandchildren: Corrin, Caydance, Ashton, and Charli; nieces, Beverly Slinger and Judy Wood; Nephews, William and Tom Reints; and many great- nieces and nephews.

Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Melbourne in 1978, her parents, two sisters, Elsa Swan and Catherine Wood; one brother, Sievert Reints.
