"Mrs. John Elliott Dead"

"Another of the good old mothers of Rockford township laid down the burdens of a long and helpful life, when Mrs. John Elliott, whose health has been failing steadily for many months past, died last evening, Tuesday, July 2, at the old home north of town, at the advanced age of 77 years. The character of the malady from which she suffered--Bright's disease with the complications incident to old age--were such that the end has been anticipated for a number of weeks past. At the time of going to press we regret being unable to give the time of the funeral.

The full sympathy of many friends is extended to the sons and daughters in the hour of their bereavement. A more extended obituary notice will appear in the next week's paper."

"Mrs. Elizabeth Elliott"

"Elizabeth Webb was born in Ireland, Nov. 15, 1829, and died at her home in Rockford, July 2, 1907 at 7:30 p. m. aged 77 years, 7 months and 17 days.

She came to this country with her parents when quite young, locating in Mt. Moris, N. Y., where she spent her young girlhood days, and accepted Christ as her Lord and Master. In 1846 she went to Slleigbolingerville, Wis., to join her parents, who had preceded her there.

It was here on Jan. 20, 1847, that she was united in marriage to John Elliott of that place, where they continued to live until June 1857, where they continued to live until June 1857, where they moved to Chester, Mich., where they lived until May 1866, when they moved with their family to Rudd, Ia.

In Nov. 24, 1874, death took from them a young lady daughter. In Nov. 1877 they moved to Rockford, which has since been her home. Her husband preceded her to the better world, March 17, 1898. She was the mother of nine children, eight of whom survive her.

Mrs. Elliott a was devout Christian, a kind, loving, self- sacrificing wife and mother, She loved her home and was devoted to the best interests of her family. She was one among the few beautiful characters of patience and gentle-mindedness, that to know her was to love her. She was forgetful of self, as she thought of the good she might do to others. Never was there a more patient sufferer.

During the many long months of sickness and painful suffering never a murmur or a complaining word escaped her lips. In her sickness she thought the sweetest thoughts, and uttered the kindest words. Her Christian life was sunny and hopeful. She was a woman of prayer and faith in God. The word of God was a lamp unto her feet, and light unto her path. The strength of the Eternal was her refuge, and the fragrance of her Christian life, like the precious ointment of Mary of Bethany poured on the head of her beloved, will linger with all who knew her. She has bequested to her family the precious legacy of a beautiful Christian character. Of her it can be said "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, from henceforth: Yea, saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them." W.P.

The funeral services were held at the country home north of town last Friday at 10:30 a. m., conducted by Rev. Walter Piper of the Methodist church and Rev. Frank Hanscom of the Congregational, the former having the scripture reading and prayer and the latter delivering the funeral address, which was suggestive and helpful and based on the subject "Ways of Measuring Life." Following the services interment took place in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery.
