FUNERAL OF BLUMENSTIEL, ROCKFORD PIONEER, HELD
BUSINESS HOUSES ARE CLOSED DURING RITES AT HOME AND CHURCH

Rockford, March 27 – The funeral of Fred C. Blumenstiel, who died at his home here Sunday was held at the Lutheran Church Tuesday afternoon after a brief service at the home. The Rev. Conrad Buehler, pastor, conducted the service and burial was in Riverside Cemetery.

Mr. Blumenstiel was born at Wichmanshausen, Hessen, Germany, August 27, 1852. In 1867, he came to America and located at Charles City, where he lived a few years, after which he came to Rockford and lived here since.

On December 2, 1875, he was married to Augusta Wilhelmena Birkholtz of Charles City. To this union four children, two sons and two daughters were born. The younger son preceded the father in death.

Mr. Blumensteil was a prominent businessman of Rockford for 54 years, having been a barber here from 1876 to 1930, when he was forced to retire because of failing eyesight.

He is survived by his wife, three children; Carl W. of Mason City; Adeline of Rockford; and Mrs. Anna Dunlap of Greenwich, New Jersey; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. All of the business houses were closed during the funeral hour.
