Mesa, Ariz. - Wayne R. Junker, 30, of Mesa, Arizona, died Friday (Sept. 20, 1991) at Mesa Lutheran Hospital, Mesa, Ariz.Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Meservey, with Rev. Richard Dunn officiating. Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.
Wayne R. Junker was born July 12, 1961, at Charles City, a son of Robert and Patricia (Gibson) Junker. He graduated from Meservey-Thorton school system in 1979. He was in the work force for two years before attending Cornell College at Mt. Vernon for one year, then transferring to Mankato State College, Mankato, Minn., for three years and graduated from there. He moved to Waco, Texas, in 1986 and attended Baylor University where he received a master of science in exercise physiology.
Mr. Junker was united in marriage to Suzii Christian on June 16, 1990, at Waco, Texas. They made their home in Mesa, Arizona.
He was men and women's head tennis coach in Phoenix and was an instructor in physical education, director of college intramurals and tennis instructor for the city of Giblert's Park and Recreation. His special hobbies and interests were tennis, fitness, family, friends, reading and playing with children.
Survivors include his wife, Suzii Junker, of Mesa, Ariz., his parents, Bob and Pat Junker of Meservey, one sister, Mrs. Jeff (Toni) Wenzel, Alexander, one brother, Jeff Junker, Meservey, and his grandmother, Dorothy Gibson.
Services were held September 25, 1991, at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Meservey, with Rev. Richard Dunn, officiating. Music by Mark Lehmann, vocalist and Mrs. Gene Christianson, organist. Flowers by Alverda Koenen and Mrs. Dale Fisher. Honorary pallbearers include Brian Kjar, David Christian, Stan Buchanan, Steve Campbell, Bobby Christian, and Rodney Enderson. Pallbearers were Jeff Junker, Doug Koenen, Dennis Lawson, Jeff Wenzel, Gordon Buss and Tim Reynolds. Final resting place is Meservey Cemetery, rural Meservey, Iowa
