Silas Wright Hanchett – October 15, 1863 – April 12, 1931

HANCHETT RITES HELD AT RUDD
RESIDENT WHO WAS BORN IN LOG CABIN DIES AT AGE OF 67

Rudd, April 15 – Funeral services were held yesterday for Silas Wright Hanchett, 67, who was born in a log cabin near Rudd, at the Methodist church with the Rev. F. O. Hillman in charge. Mr. Hanchett died Sunday from a complication of diseases at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Louis Lakoste, who lives on the old home place.

Mr. Hanchett was born October 15, 1863. On March 31, 1891 he was married to May Murray of Floyd. To them were born two daughters, Margie and Blanche. Mrs. Hanchett preceded him in death March 20, 1908.

He and the daughters kept the home for several years and on January 7, 1915 he married Mrs. Eliza Bennett, who also preceded him in death on December 29, 1922. His life has been spent near Rudd with the exception of one year which was in Colorado.

He leaves his daughter, two sisters; Mrs. C. A. Utter of Mason City and Mrs. J. D. Utter of Rudd.
