Ivan Friend

Ivan L. Friend, 82, a resident of 202 7th Ave., died Wednesday evening, September 8, 1994, in the hospice room at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services for Ivan Friend will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hauser Funeral Home. The Rev. Robin Stoops, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at graveside by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from noon to 9 p.m. Friday where the family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday morning.

Ivan Lamont Friend was born Nov. 2, 1911, at Floyd, the son of George and Susan Smith Friend. He received his education in the Charles City schools. On March 23, 1935, he and Lavernus Vandeventer were married at Osage. He served in the Navy during WWII. He worked as a machinist in Beloit, Wis., retired in 1972 and moved to Muscoda, Wis. They later moved to Charles City.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.

Living family members include his wife, Lavernus of Charles City; a son, Gerald of Portage, Wis.; two brothers, Howard of Columbus, Ga., and Raymond of Glendora, Calif., and three sisters Myrtle Hoel of Rockford, Ill., Mae Watts of New Hampton, and Delores Henning of Lincoln, Neb. There are four grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant daughter, Gail, and four brothers.
