Charles City soldier home on leave, was killed late Sunday in a three car collision on highway 218 four miles west of Charles City. Three persons were injured and four others escaped with cuts and bruises.

Charles City Man Killed in Crash

CHARLES CITY - Eldon Coomer, 23, Charles City soldier home on leave was killed late Sunday night in a three car collision on US 218, four miles west of Charles City. Three persons were injured and four others escaped with cuts and bruises.

Highway patrolman Richard Jensen said, Coomer was driving a car owned by Mrs. Emma Herman of Charles City. In the car with Coomer were Mrs. Herman's two sons, Edward 16 and Carl 23.

Jensen said, Coomer lost control of the car on a curve and the auto collided with one driven by Joe Reef of Carroll. Reef and the two Herman's were taken to the hospital here. Their conditions were not believed to be serious.

Jensen said the impact forced the Reef car back into a car carrying the Bernard Wagner family of Osage. Mr. & Mrs. Wagner and their two children received minor injuries.

Funeral arrangements for Coomer were pending Monday at the Grossmann-Hage Funeral home.

CHARLES CITY — Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p. m. at the Grossmann-Hage funeral home for Eldon L. Coomer, 23, life-time resident of Charles City, who died of injuries in a three car accident Monday morning. He was returning home on a furlough to await his next assignment.
