Dorcas Geneve (Newling) Weber 1910-2012

AUSTIN, MINNESOTA -- Dorcas G. Weber, 102, of Austin, Minn., died Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Comforcare in Austin.

Dorcas Geneve Newling was born in Charles City, Iowa, to James and Margaret (Barry) Newling on March 27, 1910. She was the youngest of five children. She and her family lived in Lyle and then moved throughout the state of Minnesota. Dorcas graduated from high school in Lake Crystal, Minn. in 1927.

Dorcas married Irving Weber on November 23, 1929. Six children were born to them. They farmed west of Lyle for 56 years until Irving’s death in 1985. Dorcas continued to stay on the farm for 14 years until health issues prompted her move to Austin. Dorcas lived in her own home with assistance until she was 101. She moved to Sacred Heart Assisted Living and died at Comforcare where she had lived two months.

Dorcas was an intelligent and hard working woman. The challenges of farm life and six children were her entire focus. She cared for her own parents for seven years as well. She was an active part of the Lyle community doing volunteer work for Queen of Peace parish, the school, Red Cross, Salvation Army, and Meals on Wheels. After Irving’s death she traveled extensively and participated in many Bible studies, AARP board and Senior Citizens.

Dorcas was preceded in death by her husband Irving; two grandchildren, Mark Ellingson and Ann Marie Weber; her parents; and four siblings.

She is survived by six children, Madonna (Mel) Bergman, James (Helen) Weber, Sharon (Garry) Ellingson, Patricia (James) Mork, Mary (Jerry) Keenan, and Kathleen (David) Damjanovich; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and seven step-great-great-grandchildren.

Dorcas will be missed tremendously but her life lessons and presence in our lives will always be with us. May she rest in peace.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes and Father Paul Nelson officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

There will be a 4:30 p.m. Rosary and a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Wednesday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary where friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

Memorials may go to the donor’s choice.
