Charles Cityan Dies
After Short Illness

Charles City, Iowa — Funeral services for Fred A. Ebert, who would have been 71 years of age, May 11, 1947, were held Thursday afternoon at Grossmann's, at 2 p. m. with the Rev. Walter M. Fritschel, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church officiating, with burial in Riverside Cemetery.

Mr. Ebert, lifelong resident of the Charles City community, died Monday morning at his home, 406 Blunt street, of a heart attack. He was active in the civic, church and fraternal life of the city. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was baptized by the Rev. F. Mutchmann. second pastor of the church. Mr. Ebert was active in the Lutheran Brotherhood of which he was a member.

Mr. Ebert joined the George P. Smith Co., here at the age of 13 and had served the concern for 58 years. He was superintendent and vice president of the company at the time of his death and had served as superintendent for 40 years.

Mr. Ebert had served as vice president of the Charles City Building and Loan association since its inception 27 years ago until January when he became president, following the resignation of W. E. Dodge. Mr. Ebert was also president of the Charles City Cemetery association.

Mr. Ebert was chairman of the board of trustees of the Elks lodge and had served two five-year terms on the board. He had served three terms as exalted ruler of the Elks lodge in 1911, 1915 and 1927.

He was born near Charles City, May 11, 1876, son of Carl and Fredericka Ebert. He was married to Clara Dinkle, of Charles City, by the Rev. E. H. Caselmann at St. John's Lutheran Church in October, 1900.

He is survived by his widow, of Charles City, and one son, Melvin, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Funeral arrangements are in charge of Grossmann's.
