#2:

Mrs. Duesenberg-Herz [sic] was born in Germany January 10, 1840 and died September 21, 1918. In 1860 she married Conrad Duesenberg, this union being blessed with nine children, four sons and five daughters. Two of the daughters died in early childhood. In 1881 the husband and father was called by the death angel to the kingdom above. In 1885 the mother, with five children, came to Floyd county, the two eldest sons having arrived before, Conrad at this place and Henry at Garner. Through the pastoral work of Rev. Kaste, she accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and with her children, joined the local church, of which she remained a member until her death. In 1891 she was married to Christian Herz [sic] of Charles City. She loved her Savior with her whole heart and was a good wife and loving Mother, and her children in return manifested affection toward the beloved mother. Between her and her only sister, Mrs. Daake, was an intimate relation, and her association with her many friends was noble and uplifting. All that medical skill and loving care could do was done for her in her last illness of pneumonia, but it pleased the Lord to take the aged pilgrim home to her reward at the age of 78 years and 8 months. She is survived by her seven children and many grandchildren. Six of the grandsons acted as pallbearers.

The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon at the Flood Creek Church, conducted by Rev. J. Klaus of Charles city and Rev. Schlein of St Charles, the new Pastor, Rev. F. Huffman being unable to be present. The remains were laid to rest in the local cemetery, attended by all of her children except her son Fred of New York. Those present from out of town were: August Duesenberg and Mrs. Fred Duesenberg of New York: Mrs. W. R. Malcomb, Denver Col.; Henry Duesenberg, Garner; Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Allard, Ft. Dodge; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ketterhenry, Garner.
