CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Edward Krall, 101, of Charles City, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City, with military rites by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may greet the family 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, where there will be a 7 p.m. scripture service. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the Mass on Thursday.

The Hauser Funeral Home, in Charles City, 641-228-2323, is in charge of arrangements.

Edward Krall, 101, of Charles City, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City, with Reverend Carl Ries celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City, with military rites by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may greet the family 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home where there will be a 7 p.m. scripture service. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the Mass on Thursday.

Edward George Krall was born January 6, 1911, on a farm in Saratoga near Cresco, the son of Ammon and Mary (Moural) Krall. He attended Colwell High School, graduating in 1932. In 1936, he opened Krall's Café in Colwell. Ed served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant and Squad Leader in the Pacific Theater during WWII from 1941 until 1945.

On October 18, 1947, he was united in marriage to Evelyn White. To this union, three children were born. The couple continued to operate the café in Colwell until moving to Charles City in 1964. He was head of maintenance for 20 years at the Floyd County Hospital, and drove school bus off and on for over 50 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, and American Legion. Ed enjoyed horses, gardening, and listening to Saturday morning polka music on the radio. He cherished time spent with family and was very patriotic and loyal to his country.

Living family members include his three children, Karel (Jeff) Brengman of Rochester, Minn., Janis (Bob) Steblay of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Donald Krall of Charles City; three grandchildren, Ryan, Kiersten, and Marissa; three great-grandchildren, Julian, Vivica, and Nadia; a brother, Ben (Imelda) Krall of Charles City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Evelyn in 2006; a granddaughter, Elissa; a brother, Bill Krall; a sister, Helen Swant; three half-siblings, Jerry, Emma, and Tilly.
