MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Elizabeth Mary 'Betty' Staudt, of Marble Rock, died Monday, April 30, 2012, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

A Memorial Mass for Elizabeth Mary Staudt will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 9, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Roseville (rural Marble Rock). Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery, Roseville.

Visitation will be at the Roseville School from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 8, with a Scriptural Wake at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Rosary Service conducted by the St. Mary Rosary Society.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Betty Staudt Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 166, Marble Rock IA 50653. The family will be sending gifts to the North Iowa Hospice, St. Mary Catholic Church and various other charities.

Elizabeth Mary Staudt

Elizabeth Mary Staudt was born on October 7, 1934 in Ionia, Chickasaw Co., Iowa, a daughter of Lawrance ‘Larry’ and Florence (McGowan) Theis and passed away Monday, April 30, 2012, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

She received her education graduating from Immaculate Conception High School in Charles City, Iowa. All through high school she worked for the Charles City Creamery, following graduation she was employed by Look Magazine in Des Moines. Once married she became a devoted homemaker and mother.

On October 2, 1954, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Staudt at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Ionia. This union was blessed with seven children. The couple farmed east of Marble Rock until 1979, when they moved into Marble Rock. Betty moved to Friendship Acres in 2006.

Betty has been a long time member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she served in several circles and taught CCD for many years.

She was a 4-H Leader, enjoyed Bowling, belonged to many Bridge Clubs, played cards and many other games, liked to visit the casino, and was an avid reader.

Loving family members include her children: Deb (David) Vermillion of Dale City, Virginia, Gary (Julie) Staudt of Iowa City, Tim (Jeanne) Staudt of Rockford, Bill (Carmen) Staudt of Rockford, Becky (John) Shook of Rockford, Vicky (Don) Gallagher of Casselberry, Florida, Sandy (John) Pieper of Ankeny; 19 grandchildren: Emily Vermillion, Elizabeth Vermillion, Aaron (Michelle) Staudt, Andy Staudt, Amanda (Ermin) Mehic, Maria Staudt, Barbara Staudt (fiancé Ryan Danielson) Sabrina Staudt, Alisha Staudt, Nate Staudt, Nicholas Staudt, Nicole (Doug) Schrage, Tony (Heather) Shook, Adam Shook, Sara Shook, Devan Gallagher, Will Pieper, Lucas Pieper, and Cole Pieper; five great-grandchildren: Allison Staudt, Caden Schrage, Ava Schrage, Quinn Schrage, Charlotte Shook , and another one on the way; one sister: Kathy (Don) Blocker of New Hampton, numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on March 18, 2002, her parents, one brother, Jerry Theis; two sisters: Patricia Rissler and Ginger Lorenzen, many close friends whom she loved as family.
