Marvin Kellogg, 87, of Charles City, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Floyd County Medical Center, Charles City, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Funeral services for Marvin Kellogg will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Hauser Funeral Home with Patty Kellogg officiating. Burial will be in Beckwith Cemetery, rural Colwell. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service.

Marvin Vorhes Kellogg was born June 15, 1924, in Charles City, the son of LuVern and Luella (Vorhes) Kellogg. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1942 and then started working at the Oliver Corporation. Marvin proudly served in the United States Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged on January 17, 1946.

He returned to Charles City to the love of his life, Thelma Helen Taylor. On September 21, 1946, they were united in marriage at the Little Brown Church, Nashua in a double wedding ceremony with Thelma's brother, Jesse. The couple lived in Charles City, but Marvin had the desire to pursue farming. They purchased a farm in Carville, but later returned to Charles City. In 1958, the family moved to a farm just outside of Charles City where they currently reside.

Marvin worked at Oliver/White Farm until retirement. He loved working hard and being outdoors, especially cutting wood. Marvin and Thelma traveled much of the U.S. in their motorhome, including a trip to Alaska. He also was able to travel to Washington D.C. with the Honor Flight on a trip he thoroughly enjoyed. Family was the most important thing to Marvin, and he was very loved by his children and grandchildren, who especially loved his dry humor and 'grandpa-isms.' He always had time to listen and share his life stories with them.

Those privileged to share his life are his wife of over 65 years, Thelma; five children, Richard (Linda) Kellogg of Fort Dodge, Luella Kellogg of Charles City, Judy (Jim) Hunn of Charles City, Randy (Barb) Kellogg of New Hampton, Sharon (Dean) Bormann of Ionia; nine grandchildren, Brian (Cris) Kellogg, Brad (Stacy) Kellogg, Greg (Kristen) Kellogg, Jennifer Watkins, Jackie Miranda, Heather (Brian) Tank, Matthew (fiancé Mandy Smith) Kellogg, Cassandra Bormann, and Garrett Bormann; 15 great grandchildren; a great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Dorothy Kellogg in 2003; a great granddaughter, Kadyn Jade on May 10, 2011; four brothers, Lyle, Earl, Dale, Don; and one sister, Darlene Hildebrand.
