ERICK SIMONSON
DIED AT HOME AT
RUDD, APRIL 15TH

Erick Simonson was born in Faaberg, Guldbrashnalen, Norway, February 27, 1842. The years of his childhood and youth were spent in his native home. He came to America with his parents in June 1858, and located temporarily in Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. In 1860 he came to Mitchell county and settled in Cedar township. During the first few years in this neighborhood he worked as a farm hand in different places.

Later he bought a piece of land in Cedar township on which he lived about five years, but, selling this, he later bought land and built a home in Rudd township, Floyd county, Iowa.

On this place he continued to live until 1919, when he bought a home and moved to the village of Rudd, Iowa. On April 8, 1872, he entered into the holy state of matrimony with Miss Karine Johnson, of Cedar township, who survives him.

In this wedlock four children were born. Of these the following survive: Martin Simonson, Rudd township; Mrs. Dexter Dean and Mrs. Charlie Witter, both of Rudd. A sister, Mrs. Kittil Sagen, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, also survives.

The departed has lived in this neighborhood about sixty-four years. he has been brought up in the Lutheran Church and has always been an acitve and loyal member of the Rock Creek Lutheran congregation.

When our church edifice was built he also assisted in hauling the building material from Adams, Minnesota, the nearest railway station. He also held many offices of trust in the congregation and performed his duties most faithfully.

The departed had enjoyed fairly good health until about a year ago, when old age began to show its effects. He died in his home in Rudd, Iowa, on April 15, 1924. Old age and its usual infirmities were the cause of his death.

Funeral services were condcuted in the Rock Creek Lutheran church on April 18, 1924, and interment in the Rock Creek Cemetery. Rev. O.C. Myhre officiated.
