Ross Edward Mason was born on June 22, 1931 in Marble Rock, Iowa, the son of Richard E. and Helen E. (Brown) Mason. He attended and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in Mason City. Following high school Ross attended and graduated from the National Radio Institute in Washington D.C.

Throughout the 1970’s Ross was employed for the Admiral Corporation in Dixon, Illinois as a radio technician before returning to Iowa to work for Dockum T.V., located in Carpenter. While in Illinois Ross developed an interest in coins and began his extensive coin collection. In 1974 Ross began working for E.F. Johnson in Clear Lake before transferring to their office in Garner in 1978. He would work for E.F. Johnson in Garner until his retirement in 1986. Following his retirement Ross began driving school bus part time for the Mason City school district.

In 1992 Ross began his lifelong passion of buying and restoring antique radios. Over the years Ross collected radios from the 1920’s, 1930’s, and 1940’s; he would restore them to working order and then sell them to make room for new ones. He prided himself on his ability to restore these forgotten treasures and bring them back to working order. Ross also enjoyed attending radio auctions and shows throughout the Midwest. His travels would take him to southern Iowa, Minneapolis, and countless places in between!

Ross was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mason City as well as a member of the Knight’s of Columbus.

He is survived be his nieces, Janet Mason (Chuck Halverson), Grand Rapids, Michigan, Sandra Northrup, Mason City, and Terese (Loal) Wood, Waverly, Kansas; his nephews, Mark Mason, Mason City and Dean (Jolene) Otomo, St. Charles, Minnesota; and his longtime friends, Paul Garber, Mason City, and Dennis Gordan, Mason City.

Ross is preceded in death by his parents, and his two brothers, Richard and Ronald.
