Nora Springs - Crystal Squier, 86, of Nora Springs, died Thursday, March 29, 2012, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 101 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, with the Rev. Jack Gannett officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 2, at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Memorial contributions may be left to the Friendly Circle of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Nora Springs, or an organization of your choice.

Crystal Squier, 86, of Nora Springs, Iowa, died Thursday, March 29, 2012, at the Nora Springs Care Center. Funeral services for Crystal will be held at 2:00p.m, Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 101 N. Hawkeye Avenue, Nora Springs with the Reverend Dr. Jack Gannett officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm, Monday, April 2, 2012 at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be left to the Friendly Circle of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Nora Springs or an organization of your choice.

Crystal was born on December 27, 1925, in Deer Creek, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mabel (Skjeveland) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She attended schools in the Osage and Northwood area, then moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota, and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1945.

On January 27, 1946, she married Truman C. Squier at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, Iowa, and to this union two children were born, Thomas and Karen. After their marriage, they lived and farmed in the Nora Springs and Northwood area. They moved back to Nora Springs in 1960 and farmed until they retired and moved into town. Crystal was a homemaker and always had a big garden on the farm. She enjoyed canning and freezing any fruit or vegetable and she loved to cook and bake. She worked outside the home as a cook at various places. She retired in 1996, of which the last 16 years she worked at the dining service at NIACC in Mason City.

Crystal was always willing to share her time and helped with the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H and volunteered for the Heart Association. She was a Rebecca of the IOOF and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church where she was active in the church circles, Friendly Circle, and served on several committees. Crystal enjoyed keeping journals, working on family genealogy, collecting plates, doing crafts and embroidery, and playing cards.

Crystal is survived by her daughter, Karen (Dale) Olson of Decorah, Iowa, daughter-in-law, Paula Squier of Mason City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Glen (Adrienne) Olson of Ooltewah, Tennessee, Eric Squier of Charles City, Brian (Michell) Squier of Charles City, and Bethany (Luke) Conner of Mason City; five great-grandchildren, Anna and Miles Olson, Destiny and Brian Thomas Squier, and Chelsea Conner; one brother, Edward Johnson of Fairmont, Minnesota, one brother-in-law, Naaman Haren of Grundy Center, Iowa; and one sister-in-law, Lois Johnson of Humboldt, Iowa, along with several nieces, nephews and good friends, Ron and Kathy Muff of Nora Springs and their family.

Crystal was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Truman (May 1990); son, Thomas (December 2008), two brothers: Clifford and Richard Johnson, and four sisters: Myrtle Johnson, Amy Eslinger, Mary Haren, and Bernice Gorham.
