Avis Downs

Services for Mrs. Wallace (Avis) Downs, 54, a resident of 904 First Ave., Floyd, who died early Wednesday evening at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home. Rev Paul T. Sielmel, pastor of Immaculate Conception Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at Hauser Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Thursday.

Ava Lillian Knapp Downs was born July 30, 1924, in Chickasaw County, the daughter of Verne and Grace Harmon Knapp. She graduated from the Nashua High School and on Nov. 28, 1942, she and Wallace Downs were married in Charles City at the Immaculate Conception Church. Her and her husband had recently moved from Phoenix, Arizona, where they had lived for the past 18 years.

Surviving is her husband, Wallace; a son, Robert of Phoenix, Arizona; a brother Troy Knapp of Charles City; three sisters, Mrs. Donald (Alice) Johnson of Charles City, Mrs. Gerald (Ethel) Allison of Ionia, and Mrs. Mrs. Lucille Pevelstorf of Jefferson. Also there are two grandchildren.
