Ora Etta Kerlin, 98, of Rudd, died Saturday, October 22, 1994, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Duneral services were to be held Wednesday, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, with the Rev. W. C. Trembly of the Rudd United Methodist Church officiating. Burial in the Evergreen Cemetery, rural Rudd.

Ora Etta Phillips was born on November 5, 1895, in Dundas, Illinois, the daughter of Hezakiah and Margaret Phillips. She received her education in the Dundas, Illinois school system, graduating from Dundas High School.

In December of 1913, on a Christmas week, the family back to Iowa, where they farmed for several years near Riceville, before moving to Rudd in 1926.

She was united in marriage to LeeRoy Kerlin in January of 1920 in Mason City. He preceded her in death in 1968.

After their marriage they owned and operated the Deep Rock Oil and Gas Station in Rudd for 43 years. During World War II, Ora worked at the Oliver Tractor factory in Charles City for six years. She enjoyed gradening, flowers, crocheting and making quilts.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rudd, and the Dorcas Circle, and a charter member of the Rudd American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include one son, Glenn Kerlin and his wife, Beverly, of Bellingham, Wash.; one daughter, Kathleen Jones and her husband, Donald, of El Paso, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Irene Kerlin of San Diego, Calif.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Ardamae Seiling, of Rudd.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gerald, who died in 1986; a great-grandson; one brother, two sisters, one who died in infancy, and one sister-in-law.
