CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Second Lieutenant Clyde E. Dobbs of Charles City, was killed in the crash of an army fighter plane Wednesday near Old Saybrook, Connecticut. He is the son of Nathan B. Dobbs of Charles City.

FUNERAL MONDAY AT CHARLES CITY FOR ARMY PILOT

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Funeral services for Second Lieutenant Clyde E. Dobbs, 26, who met death Wednesday afternoon in an airplane crash at Old Saybrook, Connecticut, while in the service of his country, will be at the First Christian Church here Monday afternoon at 2:30, with the Reverend H. M. Risse, of Mitchell, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by Marshall A. Shannon Post 174, American Legion.

Lieutenant Dobbs was born at Springfield, Illinois, March 11, 1916, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Dobbs. When a small boy he moved with his parents to Charles City, where he attended public schools and was graduated with the class of 1934. While attending high school he was prominent in athletics.

He attended Uper Iowa University at Fayette, where he majored in athletics.

Prior to entering service, Clyde was employed by the Burgess Battery Company, of Freeport, Illinois, as a salesmanage, having several states in his territory.

Besides his father he is survived by six brothers and one sister.

His mother, Mrs. Addie Dobbs, and two brothers preceded him in death.

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Second Lieutenant Clyde E. Dobbs, 26, son of Nathan B. Dobbs, 806 Cedar Street, Charles City, was killed Wednesday when his fighter plane crashed near Old Saybrook, Conn., the Eastern defense command announced. Funeral arrangements are indefinite.

Prior to enlistment he was sales manager for the Burgess Battery company, having several states in his territory.

Dobbs, with several other Charles City and Floyd County young men, took the refresher course given by the Charles City Elks in the spring of 1942, and enlisted in the air corps on March 22, 1942. He took his primary training at Ballinger, Texas, and his basic training at San Angelo, Texas, and his advanced course at Moore field.

Besides his father he is survived by six brothers and one sister, Clarence and Ralph, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Orville, Royal Oak, Michigan; Homer, Charles City; Earl, Mason City; Paul, U. S. coast guard, Loleta, California, and Mrs. Ceylon Cole, Osage, and his grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Clark, Wayne City, Illinois.

He was graduated from the Charles City high school in 1934. He received his commission and wings in November, 1942.
