1931 — Raymond Speer — 1952

Raymond W. Speer was born on February 13, 1931, at Charles City, Iowa. When he was one year old, the family moved to Minnesota, where Raymond attended grade school at Grand Meadow and high school at Rose Creek.

When he was 18 years old, in August 1949, he enlisted in the armed forces.

He served in Japan and for 11 months was stationed in Korea, where he was founded in August, 1950. He spent three months in Osaka hospital in Japan, later returning to Korea. He returned home on rotation June 21, 1951, and was stationed at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.

Cpl. Speer died May 4, 1952, in Austin. He leaves to mourn his loss, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Speer, Brownsdale; one sister, Mavis June; four brothers: Myron, Darrell, Gary and Bruce; his grandmother, Mrs. John Speer, LeRoy; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ruzicka, Lime Springs, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Thursday, May 8, at the Martz Funeral Home, LeRoy, Rev. Claude Spicer, Brownsdale, officiating. Interment was at Le Roy cemetery with Olaf B. Damm Post 1216. VFW, in charge of military rites at the graveside.

His sweet smile and sunny disposition won many hearts and Raymond will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
