NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Marlys Jean Bartusek, 81, of 110 N. Iowa Ave., died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, after a short battle with lung cancer.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church, 202 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with Pastor Wendy Johannesen officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs.

Memorials may be directed to the Marlys J. Bartusek Memorial.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. today, Sunday, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs.

Should friends desire, memorials may be directed to the Marlys J. Bartusek Memorial.

Marlys Jean Hoskins was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Swaledale, the daughter of Milo and Jewell (Abrams) Hoskins. Marlys was a graduate of Swaledale High School and Hamilton Business College.

Marlys was united in marriage to Robert Bartusek on Sept. 29, 1951, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua; to this union three children were born. Marlys was the office manager for Hardware Hank in Nora Springs for over 25 years.

Marlys loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, including attending their extracurricular activities. She had a passion for flower gardening and shopping! She also spent time with her husband Robert traveling to shows collecting high-line insulators. Marlys volunteered some of her time helping with activities at the Nora Springs Care Center. Marlys was a lifetime member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary.

Marlys is survived by her children, Denise (Mike) Rottinghaus, Nora Springs, Dennis Bartusek and Kristy Bartusek, Tempe, Ariz., David (Cindy) Bartusek, Osage; grandchildren, Jim (Melissa) Rotthinghaus, Brandon Rottinghaus (Maddie Brown), Austin Bartusek, Trevor Bartusek, Mackenzie Bartusek, and Shae Bartusek; great-grandchildren Skye Rottinghaus and Nick Colvin; sister-in-law Shirley (Leon) Suby, Mason City, niece Christy Wass, Norfolk, Va., nephew Scott Suby, Schaumburg, Ill., Loren and Shirley McIlhatton; along with other relatives and friends.

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents and husband Robert.
