MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Funeral services for Thelma Lucille Gansen, 86, of Marble Rock, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Marble Rock with Pastor Judy Wooton officiating.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at Reid's Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St., Greene, and will continue one hour before service at the church on Wednesday.

Thelma Lucille Gansen was born on June 16, 1925, near Nashua, Chickasaw County, the daughter of Galen and Ella (Pierson) Harris, and died Sept. 2, 2011, the Chautauqua Guest Home No. 2 in Charles City. She received her education in the Marble Rock public schools.

On October 25, 1947, she was united in marriage to John Gansen in Austin, Minn. They made their home in Marble Rock, where they raised two sons.

Thelma attended the United Methodist Church in Marble Rock and was a member of the UMW where she assisted the funeral dinner committee for many years. She loved to cook and bake, but most of all, she enjoyed time with her family and friends. She helped to prepare dinners for the Marble Rock Lion's Club for years.

She is survived by one son, Tony (Dian) Gansen, of Round Rock, Texas; daughter-in-law, June Gansen, of Mason City; two grandchildren, Joe E. Gansen, of Mason City and Jackie Vogelgesang, of Mason City; one "adopted" granddaughter, Katie Reid Eliason, of Mason City; two great-grandchildren, Sydney and Spencer Vogelgesang, of Mason City; one "adopted" great-grandson, Ander Eliason, of Mason City; two sisters, Phyllis McRoberts, of Greene, Bonnie (Ronald) Schriever, of Marble Rock; brother-in-law, Larry Bill, of Riceville; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Eugene Nickolas, of Osage.

She is preceded in death by her husband John; her son, Larry "Joe"; her parents; and sister Dorothy.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the family or the United Methodist Church of Marble Rock.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene and Marble Rock.
