A GOOD MAN CALLED HOME

John Schmitt Sr. was born in Germany, June 8, 1843, and passed away at his home north of Marble Rock March 25, 1930, at the advanced age of 86 years, 9 months and 17 days.

In 1861 he was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Lenhoff, who preceded him in death 17 years ago. To this union eleven children were born, one daughter dying in infancy.

In 1873 he, with his family, came to America and settled on a farm north of Marble Rock where he spent the remainder of his useful and industrious life.

He leaves to mourn his death his ten children, Katherine, Mary, John, Jacob, Peter, Charles, Joseph and Matt, all of Marble Rock; Nick of Rockford; and Mrs. Frank Weber, of Independence. Besides his children he leaves thirty grand children and three great-grandchildren besides many other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Roseville. Solemn Requiem mass was read by the Reverend Hogan of Greene, the Reverend Naebers, of Barclay, and the Reverend Iekel, of Roseville. The remains were laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery. Thus a good man and a useful citizen has finished his life's work.

Mr. Schmitt was a devout member of St. Mary's Church and gave liberally to support the work of the church.

We express out sympathy to the bereaved family.
