ROY STROUD KILLED IN ACTION

Marble Rock has been congratulating herself that during the awful struggle of war through which we have just passed not one of the boys has been called upon to make the supreme sacrifice upon foreign soil. With the war over and plans well under way for the return of the boys to their home; citizens had begun to talk and plan for a great reception for the first bunch to arrive from abroad. The message received Sunday evening by Mr. and Mrs. Everett Stroud stated that their son Roy had been killed in action, during the last hours of the struggle, came as a thunderbolt out of clear sky. Had such a message came while war was in fierce progress it would not have been quite so hard to bear, but to come at such a time makes it almost unendurable.

One consolation remains to the bereaved father and mother however, and that is that their son had a vital part in the greatest event of the world's history.

Roy was born at Marble Rock, Iowa October 25, 1891. He received his schooling in the Marble Rock Schools and entered the barber business in Marble Rock, in partnership with his brother, Clifford. He was called to the colors on February 22, 1918 and received his military training at Camp Dodge, Iowa and Camp Logan, Texas. He left for overseas service from New York and on the last day of April arrived in France. He was promoted to the office of Corporal which position he held at the time of his death.

In September he was slightly wounded from which he recovered and on November 11, 1918 was killed in action, giving his life for the right, just as the victory was won.
