Clarence E. Justus, 85, of Charles City, died Monday, August 15, 2011, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Clarence Justus will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Jim Beranek will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Clarence Emory Justus was born December 18, 1925, at Kalamo, Michigan, the son of William and Pearl (Dull) Justus. He graduated from Vermontville High School in Vermontville, Mich. On January 31, 1948, he was united in marriage to Sarah Jane Burgess at Freeport, Mich. Clarence worked for the Oliver Corporation from 1943 to 1954 at Battle Creek, Mich., moving to Charles City in 1955 where he worked for Oliver/White Farm Equipment Company from 1955 to 1989. After retirement Clarence continued working at Charles City Steel and Welding for several years and then at Mills-Helmers Incorporated until the age of 80. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Through his leadership in the Boy Scouts of America he contributed to the lives of many young men through the years. Clarence was involved in many organizations in the community including the Jaycees, noon Kiwanis, Oliver Management Club, Floyd County Sheriff's Reserve and the Floyd County Museum.

Living family members include his wife, Sarah Jane Justus of Charles City; three children, Wesley (MaryJane) Justus of Postville, Zan (Bob) Idler of Florida and Brad Justus of Rudd; seven grandchildren, Kara (Kenny) Moore, Melissa (Joshua) Holthaus, Joshua (Kristin) Justus, Chris Idler, Jacque Idler, Stephanie Justus and Kristin Justus; six great grandchildren, Abby Holthaus, Brady Holthaus, Holden Justus, Brenton Justus, Braylon Miller and EllaMae Koebrick.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, June Crousser; and a grandson, Ian Justus.
