Myrtie Olive (Batterson) Reed 1869-1937

MRS. REED RITES HELD IN CHURCH
PIONEER NORA SPRINGS WOMAN SURVIVED BY HUSBAND, SON, DAUGHTER

Nora Springs – Funeral services for Mrs. Theron Reed were held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church with the Rev. George D. Gaide officiating. Mrs. O. L. Hansen, accompanied by Mrs. Kenneth Shanks, sang. Burial was in the Reed Cemetery north of town.

Myrtie Olive Batterson was born May 7, 1869 at Waupun, Wis., and died at her home here. In 1876 the family of which Myrtie was the eldest moved to Sumner, and three years later to Nora Springs which was her home for 57 years.

On May 11, 1887, Myrtie was married to Theron Reed. They lived most of their married life on the Reed farm north of town which had been bought from the government by his father, Deacon Reed, over 80 years ago and is a landmark of the early days here.

Mrs. Reed is survived by her husband and two children, Mrs. Ellisworth Treloar of Nora Springs and Harold Reed of Mason City; seven grandchildren, Howard and Ralph Treloar, Ruth Treloar Hartwell, Elsie and Norris Treloar and Elburn and Clayton Reed and one great grandchild, Joan Hartwell. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Mattie Moore of Pasadena, Cal., and a brother, C. W. Batterson of Mason City.
