MASON CITY, IOWA — Verna Yaggy, 91, of Mason City died Sunday (May 8, 2005) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
Funeral services for Verna will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs. Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church.
Verna Schlosser was born in Nora Springs, Iowa, on August 22, 1913, the daughter of Andrew and Emma (Hof) Schlosser. She graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1931 and attended Iowa State Teachers College. She taught rural school and was employed at Kluver's Department Store in Nora Springs and Damon's Department Store in Mason City.
On June 2, 1952, she married Floyd Yaggy in Albert Lea, Minn. They resided in Portland, Iowa, for nine years and moved to Mason City in 1961. Verna's Christian faith was a major part of her life. She was a church organist and pianist for many years at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Nora Springs. In later years she was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mason City and a member of the Mary Martha Church Circle and the Social Hour Club. She loved music, reading and flowers.
Survivors include her son Ron (Judy) Yaggy of Rochester, Minn.; grandson, Steve (Carol) Yaggy also of Rochester, Minn.; two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Kristin. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Verna was preceded in death by her husband in 1963, her parents, three brothers, five sisters, and a grandson, Tim Yaggy.
