CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Ardis Lockwood, 85, of Charles City, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 23, at 10:30 a.m. at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City, with Rev. Jane Keel officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service on Saturday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church.

Stories, thoughts and condolences may be shared with the family on the funeral home website.

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Ardis Lockwood, 85, of Charles City, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Ardis was born on June 21, 1926, in Mason City, the daughter of Joseph J. and Gladys A. (Rye) O'Hara. She was raised in Mason City and attended rural schools. She also attended Gates Business College in Waterloo.

She was united in marriage to H. Fred Lockwood on March 19, 1943 in Bentonville, Ark. The couple made their home in Charles City, but lived in Cedar Rapids and Albert Lea, Minn., before moving back to Charles City in 1988. Ardis worked in the City Manager's office in Charles City for several years, and also as a media director for W.D. Lyon Co. in Cedar Rapids.
Ardis was a member of CNB Heritage Club and Messiah Lutheran Church. She enjoyed collecting antiques, Avon and Jim Beam bottles. She took pride in the flowers and vegetables she raised in her garden. Her husband and she liked to travel, both in the United States and Europe. She loved to read and also was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1990; step-daughter, Joan Hannah; two brothers; a sister; two step-brothers and her step-father.

Those left to cherish her memory include her step-children, Robert (Patricia) Lockwood, James (Jan) Lockwood, Dean (Ann) Lockwood and Lee (Tammi) Lockwood; 19 step-grandchildren; 19 step-great-grandchildren; two nieces; three nephews; 10 great nieces and nephews; and many friends.
