LAWRENCE 'LARRY' BALLHAGEN

OSAGE, IOWA - Lawrence W. Ballhagen, 91, of Osage, died on Tuesday, December 4, 2001, from injuries received in a fire at his home.

Lawrence was born southwest of Aredale on Sept. 24, 1910, the son of William T. and Cora Frasier Ballhagen. He farmed all of his life.

He was united in marriage to Irene Marrs on January 20, 1930 in Hampton, Iowa. During World War II he was employed at the Rock Island Railroad, Decker and Sons packing and American Crystal Sugar while still engaged in farming.

They lived in Rockford, Manly, and Rockwell, moving to Osage in 1973.

Lawrence was a former member of the First Congregational Church in Rockwell and was a Farm Bureau member.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Osage Fire Department or the Mitchell County Ambulance.

His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Dr. Wesley G. Pippert officiating. Interment will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home inOsage.

He is survived by one daughter, Sandra Pippert and her husband, Harold, of Mason City; two sons, Donald Ballhagen and his wife, Diana, of Sheffield, and Duane Ballhagen and his wife, Shirley, of Rockwell; one sister, Luella Dodd and her husband, Harold, of Hampton; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene Ballhagen, on Dec. 11, 1994; daughter, Sharon Kay Cordle; a granddaughter, Brenda Cordle; a great-grandson, Travis Ballhagen; one sister; and three brothers.
