ROCKFORD, IOWA - John Paul Grube, 88, formerly of 601 Ninth St., Charles City, died Thursday (June 27, 2002) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Rockford, with Monsignor Stanley Hayek officiating.

Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Monday at Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 W. Main in Rockford, with a 7 p.m. parish wake service. There will be additional visitation one hour before services on Tuesday at the church.

ROCKFORD, IOWA - John Paul Grube, 88, formerly of 601 Ninth St., Charles City, died Thursday morning (June 27, 2002) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City. Officiating will be Monsignor Stanley Hayek. Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday at Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 W. Main, Rockford, and again one hour before services at the church. A parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Paul was educated at a country school in Howard County and then graduated from Charles City High School. Following graduation, he was employed at the Servus Rubber Plant in Rock Island. In 1940 he moved south of Nora Springs, where he farmed until retiring in 1994 and then moved to Charles City.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. He loved to tinker with all kinds of machinery. John raised livestock, including Black Angus cattle. He was an avid reader of all types of material and liked listening and watching basketball and baseball. In his early life, he also worked for the Conservation Corps.

On June 19, 1943, Paul was united in marriage to Stella Zieman at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford. She preceded him in death on May 9, 1983. He later was married to Gladys Theis on Oct. 1, 1994, at Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City. She also preceded him in death.

John is survived by one brother, Ralph, and his wife, Angie Grube, of Charles City; two sisters, Florence Roberts, Charles City and Marcella Boynton, Fort Madison; his brother-in-law, Gene Gallant, Charles City, and several step-children and many nieces and nephews.
