ROCKFORD, IOWA - Luella M. (Mrs. Clarence) Pennington, 97, of Rockford died Friday (March 22, 2002) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Rockford with the Rev. Marjorie Bradshaw officiating. Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fullerton-Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 West Main in Rockford. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services.

ROCKFORD - Luella M. (Mrs. Clarence) Pennington, 97, of Rockford, died on Friday (March 22, 2002) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. today Fullerton-Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 West Main, Rockford. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services.

Anna Luella Martin was born Aug. 30, 1904, on a farm near Floyd. She attended Floyd schools and joined the Floyd Methodist Church in 1914; she attended Upper Iowa University and Gates Business College and worked for New York Life.

She married Clarence R. Pennington on Feb. 24, 1928. They farmed their land north of Rockford from 1928 until retiring. She joined the Rockford Methodist Church after coming to the farm. She resided at the Rockford Manor for several years and later lived at the Nora Springs Care Center.

She enjoyed traveling with the Heritage Club, was active with the UMW, card parties, cooking, needle work and community activities.

Living family members include two sons, Charles Pennington and his wife, Wilma, from Las Vegas, Nev., and Bruce Pennington and his wife, Shirley, from Rudd; one daughter, Edith Smith, from Merritt Island, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Clarence Pennington, Linda Johnsen, Mary Jennings, Brenda Pennington/Sapienza, Janne Etz, Greg Chambers, Julie Westerndorf, Cindy Snell; 11 great-grandchildren, Adam, Joshua and Seth Torgerson, Melissa and John Chambers, Ricky Etz, Laura, Patrick and Nathan Snell, Elizabeth and Sarah Westerndorf.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Scherf and Jessie Driggers; one granddaughter, Debra Ann Pennington and a great-granddaughter, Andrea Snell.
