ROBERT 'BOB' GENE BARTUSEK
NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Robert "Bob" Gene Bartusek, 72, of Nora Springs, died Sunday (Sept. 23, 2001) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye in Nora Springs, with the Rev. Richard Pippert, of the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs, officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield, with military honors by the Nora Springs American Legion Post #449.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the chapel.
Robert "Bob" Gene Bartusek, was born on January 18, 1929, in Mason City, the son of Cleo and Margaret (McIlhatton) Bartusek. He attended and received his education in the Mason City school system, graduating from Mason City High School in 1948.
In August of 1948, he was inducted into the U.S. Army serving in Okinawa before going to Korea serving in the 9th Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in May 1951.
After his honorable discharge he came back to Mason City and was united in marriage to Marlys Hoskins on September 29, 1951, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
After their marriage, Bob attended and graduated from Mason City Junior College and also attended and graduated from Hamilton Business College in Mason City. Bob worked for Interstate Power Company in Mason City, as a lineman for 30 years until his retirement.
He enjoyed collecting high line electricity insulators, enjoyed traveling to electric insulator shows, watching sports on TV, and was an avid Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Cubs, and Iowa football college fan, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.
He was a member of the National Insulator Association, life member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars in Mason City, and a member of the Nora Springs American Legion Post #449 and was past commander, life member of the 2nd Division Indian Head Association of the national chapter, and life member of the 2nd Division of the Indian Head Association of the Iowa Chapter.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marlys Bartusek, of Nora Springs; three children, Denise Rottinghaus and her husband, Michael, of Nora Springs, Dennis Bartusek and his wife, Kristy, of Tempe, Ariz., and David Bartusek and his wife, Cindy, of Osage; six children, Jim and Brandon Rottinghaus, Trevor, Mackenzie, Shae, and Austin Bartusek; a sister, Shirley Suby and her husband, Leon, of Mason City; an aunt, Gladys Finch, of Mason City; a niece, Christy Wass, of Norfolk, Va., and a nephew, Scott Suby, of Schaumburg, Ill.; as well as other relatives and many friends.
His parents, and a stepfather preceded him in death.
