MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Catherine C. Gerhard, 89, of Marble Rock, died Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Roseville, rural Marble Rock. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock, with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary service. Visitation will continue at Parish Hall one hour before services on Saturday.

MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - A funeral Mass for Catherine C. Gerhard, 89, of Marble Rock, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Roseville, rural Marble Rock, with Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock, with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary service conducted by the Rosary Society. Visitation will continue one hour before services on Saturday at the parish hall.

Catherine Clara Griner was born January 14, 1912, in Manitoba, Canada, a daughter of George and Margaret (Bohrofen) Griner, and died Tuesday (May 1, 2001) at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

In 1927 the family moved from Canada to Hudson, Iowa, where she received her education. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1930.

On Jan. 16, 1934, she was united in marriage to Carl Gerhard at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo. They farmed in the Marble Rock area for many years before moving into Marble Rock in 1973.

Catherine was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Roseville and a member of the Rosary Society.

Her interests included sewing, cooking, and playing bridge and 500. She will be remembered as a loving grandmother and great-grandmother.

Living family members include her son, Gary, and daughter-in-law, Donna Gerhard, of Marble Rock; three grandsons, Tim of Allison, John of Mason City and Mike and his wife, Reesa, of Hayes, Kan.; her favorite granddaughter, Jackie, and her husband, Reid Adams, of Marble Rock; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley, Chase and Madison Adams, Kristie and Jamie Gerhard, Adam Gerhard and Cade and Maci Gerhard; one great-great-grandchild, McKayla Bales; one sister, Dorothy Pitts of Toronto, Canada; and one brother, Leonard and his wife, Mary Griner, of Iowa Falls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, on June 20, 1987; two sisters, Leona Merfeld and Edna Sherry; and five brothers, Paul, Joseph, Raymond, Lawrence and John Gerhard.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Catherine Gerhard Memorial Fund in care of the family.
