CHARLES CITY - Clyde W. Smith, 81, 3010 230th St., died Wednesday morning (April 4, 2001) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Charles City, with the Rev. Jack Ivey officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Park Cemetery west of Mason City, with a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. with the family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.
Clyde Wheeler Smith was born April 7, 1919, at Walnut Grove, Mo., the son of John W. and Leona (Persley) Smith. He graduated from Walnut Grove, Mo., High School and enlisted in the Army. After his discharge he and Sophie Negomir were married on Oct. 1, 1945, at Tampa, Fla.
They moved to Mason City, where he graduated from Mason City Junior College, now North Iowa Area Community College. They then moved to St. Louis where both were employees of McDonald Douglas Aircraft, retiring in 1983. They moved to Charles City in 1984, where he was active in the Charles City Noon Kiwanis Club and in the American Legion. He loved to garden and enjoyed wildlife.
Living family members include his wife, Sophie, of Charles City; and a sister, Christine, and her husband, Charles Hall, of Tulsa, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son and two brothers.
Memorials may be directed to the Charles City Noon Kiwanis Club to be used for the Children's Miracle Network.
