Vivian Decker Quam, 78, of Northwood, formerly of Floyd and Nashua, died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

Funeral services for Vivian Quam will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood. Pastor Karen Grandall will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Vivian Nelda Ida Kalke Decker Quam was born January 19, 1933, in Floyd County, the daughter of Milo and Viola (Kamin) Kalke. She graduated from Floyd High School. Vivian also attended North Iowa Area Community College and Iowa State University for income tax courses. On September 9, 1950, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Decker at Austin, Minn. Lloyd died on October 1, 1994. Vivian married Gaylen Quam on May 4, 1996 at Northwood. For many years Vivian was a tax consultant in Charles City and then at Northwood. She thoroughly enjoyed meeting people and working with numbers and math. Vivian was a member of the First Lutheran Church. Her interests included reading, sewing and canning. She sewed over 500 quilt tops for Lutheran World Relief. Vivian also enjoyed singing in the past with the choir at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd and was the soloist for many weddings at the Little Brown Church. She will always be remembered for her love of others and sharing life’s experiences with them.

Living family members include her husband, Gaylen Quam of Northwood; a daughter, Joy (Tom) Krieger of Nashua; three sons, Michael Decker of Sanborn, Russell (Wendy) Decker of Osage and Gene Quam of Northwood; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Foote, Jesse Krieger, Luke Decker, Matthew Decker, Justin Kadner, Josh Decker and Trevor Decker; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Nona Smith of Dike; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lloyd.

Memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church Quilters Club.
