Evelyn Maxine Stoltenberg was born on August 13, 1922, in Mason City to Henry and Carrie (Popingo) Rheingans. She attended and graduated from Mason City High School. On July 3, 1942, Maxine was united in marriage to Walter Stoltenberg in Mason City. To this union two children were born.

In 1948 Walter and Maxine moved to a farm near Rockwell, where they farmed and made their home for 13 years before moving to another farm near Nora Springs. They resided outside of Nora Springs until March of 1984, when they retired and moved into town. While on the farm, Maxine was a devoted wife and mother. She stayed busy raising the two children as well as helping Walter on the farm. For many years she raised chickens which in turn began her extensive chicken collection.

Maxine was an excellent cook and was known for her peach pies, which were always baked to perfection. In her free time she also liked knitting, crocheting and sewing. Maxine was active within the church, where she helped prepare and serve senior meals and also served as a janitor for some time.

Although she kept busy, Maxine always made time to spend with her family. They enjoyed summer picnics, birthday celebrations, holidays and evening nights spent playing cards together. Family was always a top priority. She also dearly loved her pet poodle, Buttons.

Maxine was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs as well as a member of the Sunshine Circle.

Those grateful for sharing in her life are her husband of 68 years, Walter; children, Larry (Nancy) Stoltenberg, Palmdale, Calif., and Carrie Ann (Randy) Lowery, Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Scot (Melanie) Stoltenberg, Craig Stoltenberg, Sarah Stoltenberg and David Stoltenberg; great-grandchildren, Jenna and Evan Stoltenberg; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding Maxine in death were her parents, three sisters and one brother.
