RUSSELL LESLIE CARPENTER

MARBLE ROCK - Funeral services for Russell Leslie Carpenter, 14, of 207 South River St., Marble Rock, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Charles City with Pastor Ruth Yeaton officiating. Cremation will follow services. Inurnment will be at a later date.

The Carpenter family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock.

The Leslie family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock.

Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Russell Leslie Carpenter was born Oct. 19, 1986, a son of Marion Jr. and Vicky (Parker) Leslie, and died Tuesday (Jan. 16, 2001) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

He attended Charles City public schools and later attended the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock public schools where he was in eighth grade at the time of his death. In 1998 he moved to Marble Rock to live with his adoptive parents, Terry and Cindy Carpenter.

Russell's interests were focused around athletics and outdoor activities. He participated in junior high football and basketball programs and the Marble Rock summer recreation baseball program. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing Nintendo and working on the computer. He liked his cat, "Spook."

Russell attended the youth group at First Baptist Church in Charles City.

He is survived by his adoptive parents, Terry and Cindy Carpenter of Marble Rock; his biological parents, Vicky Leslie of Shakopee, Minn., and Marion Leslie Jr. of Charles City; and his three brothers, John, Randy and Franklin. Extended family members include his adoptive grandparents, Benny and Shirley Goddard of Charles City, biological maternal grandparents, Jane Hermen of Charles City and Clyde Parker Sr. and his wife, Bev, of Mason City; and paternal grandmother, Mary Leslie, of Nashua. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Marion Leslie Sr.
