RUTH KATHRYN KEMP
BRITT, IOWA - Ruth Kathryn Kemp, 97, of Britt, passed away Wednesday (March 21, 2001) at The Westview Care Center in Britt.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt, with Pastor Susan Detwiler officiating. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. in Sunnyside Memorial Gardens in Charles City.
Visitation will be from 9 until 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral chapel.
Ruth, the daughter of Seward and Kate Heinselman Hartong, was born Sept. 14, 1903, at Plymouth. She attended the Plymouth public schools. In 1919, she moved with her parents to Nora Springs and graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1921.
Ruth attended Upper Iowa University and received a state teaching certificate. She taught school in Blairsburg, Huxley, Floyd and Odeboldt.
On May 4, 1935, Ruth was united in marriage with F. Lloyd Kemp in Kansas City, Mo. They made their home in Charles City and in 1939 moved to Clarksville
In 1976, they moved to the Britt area to be near her sisters Irene Hartong and Hazel Cooper. Ruth became a resident of Westview Care Center in Britt, in November 1997.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Ruth is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd, on Aug. 11, 1981; two brothers and three sisters.
