ROCKFORD, IOWA - Josephine S. Zubrod, 90, of Rockford, died on Friday, February 11, 2011, at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Holy Name Catholic Church, 507 1st Avenue N.W., Rockford, with the Rev. James Wm. Dubert officiating. Burial will be held in the Riverside Cemetery in Rockford. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Tuesday.

In honor of Josephine, memorials will be used to further the missionary work of her great nephew and niece, who are missionaries in Cambodia with Overseas Missionary Fellowship.

Josephine Sophie Havranek was born in North Judson, Indiana on February 17, 1920 to Frank and Sophia Havranek. When she was five years old, her family moved to Charles City where she graduated from the Catholic High School. In 1937 her family moved to Rockford. For 41 years Josephine was in charge of the hot lunch program at the Rockford School. In 1951 she married Leo Zubrod, who was a farmer and eventually worked at the light plant.

Josephine is survived by her brother, Robert Havranek; a sister, Sylvia Smith; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. Jo did not have children but was a mother and grandmother to many. Her chocolate chip cookies and encouragement to others will always be remembered.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Zubrod; her parents, Frank and Sophia Havranek; and a brother, Frank Havranek, Jr.
