NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Mavis Murphy, 81, of Nora Springs and formerly of Riceville, died Monday, January 24, 2011, at her home in Nora Springs.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in Riceville. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Conway Funeral Home in Riceville. There will be a parish vigil service at 6 p.m.

Mavis Marie Murphy was born on May 5, 1929, at Orchard, the daughter of Anthony and Beulah (Roethler) Prochaska. She received her education in the Osage School System. She married Eugene Murphy on Jan. 4, 1950, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. Following their marriage they moved to the parents' farm and in 1956 moved to the farm southeast of Riceville. Mavis became a farm wife and helped with the chores.

Mavis was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary societies.

She is survived by three daughters, Linda (Richard) Ott of Nora Springs, Ann (Dean) Ott of Marble Rock and Lorie Murphy of Nora Springs; five grandchildren, Richard (Julie) Ott Jr., Keith (Jennifer) Ott, Sheila Ott, Melissa (Trent) Maurer and John (Amy Weber) Ott; eight great-grandchildren, Morgan and Colton Ott; Clarissa, Jayden and Dilan Ott; Kalista, Riesse and Connor Maurer; and Gabby Weber. Also surviving is one sister, Lois Salz of Casper, Wyoming; and two brothers, Anthony (Anita) Prochaska of Herrin, Illinois, and Jerome (Marjorie) Prochaska of Orleans, Virginia.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Eugene, in 1996, one son, Eugene Jr., and one daughter, Alice Murphy.
