Funeral arrangements have been completed by the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs.

Mike was born on December 10, 1909, in Mason City, the son of Clarence and Hattie I. (Bell) Schell. Being raised on a farm, he developed a life-long love of farming.

He married Oleva Hofler on May 3, 1937. They settled in Nora Springs where they were part owners of the Hofler Seed Company for over 40 years.

During this time he was an active member of the community, the bowling league, Kiwanis Club, and Catholic Community Center. He also served on the board of the Farmers Mutual Telephone Company.

His belief in the Nora Springs community was shown by his 20 years of service as mayor. City projects of particular interest to him were the sewage treatment plant, the extension of curbs and guttering to more streets, and the building of Maple View Manor. He believed it was his responsibility to make Nora Springs a good place to live and work. Mike received recognition for his volunteerism by Gov. Terry Branstad. His friends and family knew Mike to be a caring family man with a great sense of humor. The people in the last place he called home, the Nora Springs Care Center, say this, too.
