EARL E. KAHL

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Earl E. Kahl, 61, of 116 N. Seminary, died Thursday (Oct. 14, 1999) at his home in Nora Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 429 N. Delaware Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Frederick J. Wood officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania, Mason City, and one hour before service time at the church Monday.

Memorials may be directed to the Earl E. Kahl Memorial Fund.

Earl was born on February 25, 1938, in Washington Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Herman F. and Hattie (Boger) Kahl. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Buck Grove. Earl graduated from Denison High School in 1956.

He served in the U.S. Army for two years, then returned to the Denison area and worked as a carpenter and mechanic.

He was married to Dorothy Arnold on July 12, 1964, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. They moved to Rock Falls in 1971 where he worked for Case Implement. In 1972 he went to work for N. W. Portland Cement Co. (Holnam) as a mechanic. They moved to Nora Springs in 1973. Earl retired in 1997 when he became disabled.

He enjoyed spending time at the Nora Inn for coffee with friends as well as working as a fix-it person for friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed working in the garden.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City, where he ushered for many years.

Earl is survived by his wife, Dorothy J. Kahl, Nora Springs; two sons, Robert A. Kahl and his wife, Stephanie, New Ulm, Minn., and Daniel E. Kahl and fiance, Melanee Kelley, Boone, N. C.; a daughter, Jill D. Kahl, Seward, Neb.; sisters, Dorathy Hulsebus, Denison, Norma Petersen and her husband, Glenn, Denison, Donna Ahart and her husband, Robert, Denison, and Irene Schulz and her husband, Arlyn, New Ulm, Minn.; parents-in-law, Bob and Garnet Arnold, Denison; sisters-in-law, Doris Kahl, Dow City, and Carolyn Schroeder, Waterloo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Herman V. Kahl.
