CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Clifford F. Maulsby Jr., 74, of 500 Hulin Street, Charles City, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at his residence.

Funeral services for Cliff Maulsby will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City, with the Rev. Dennis D. Niezwaag of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City, officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, with the family present from 4 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services.

Clifford Francis Maulsby was born March 9, 1925, in Charles City, the son of Clifford Winton and Lida (Weiner) Maulsby. On Dec. 31, 1944, in Charles City, he was united in marriage to Doris Gail Dodge. She died June 4, 1966, in Bethany, Missouri, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

On February 10, 1968, in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, he was united in marriage to Sharon K. Mooberry. She preceded him in death on Jan. 27, 1992, in Charles City.

Mr. Maulsby attended school in Charles City and went on to welder's school, in Minneapolis, Minn. For 25 years he was a welder and foreman at Hydro-Tile in Nashua. He retired from Hydro-Tile in 1988. Following his retirement, he went to work part time, first as a parts deliverer for NAPA Auto Parts and Power Pro, and later as a driver for his son's automobile dealership.

He was formerly a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1011, of Charles City. He enjoyed bowling and belonged to both a men's league and a mixed league. He often found time to play a favorite game of Solitaire. Cliff enjoyed socializing with his buddies, and loved to play the part of the "devil's advocate," rooting for the team that no one else was rooting for. He loved that part unless it was a ballgame with the New York Yankee's, to which he remained a very loyal fan.

Those thankful for sharing Cliff's life include his children, Michael Maulsby and wife Janice of Mason City; Patricia Stephenson and husband James of Ames, Thomas Maulsby and wife Linda of Clear Lake, Theresa Scharnhorst, of Oelwein, Tammy Mowrer and husband Mark of Robbins, and Thomas "T.J." Maulsby and wife Kris of Hudson, Wis.; two sisters, Laura Ortman and her husband Robert of Charles City, and Anna Britt, of Ames; 14 great-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; both of his wives; a brother, Klaus Maulsby; and two sisters, Pearl Fredericks and Lucille McKenzie.
