Death: December 17, 2010Amy Mitchell, 52, of Charles City, died Friday, December 17, 2010, at the Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A memorial Mass for Amy Mitchell will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Amy Lou Mitchell was born September 22, 1958, in Charles City, the daughter of Bernard “Bud” and Bonnie Lou (Caudill) Mitchell. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1977 and attended UNI where she received her BA in Early Childhood Education and continued graduate work in Social Work and Family Service. Amy devoted her life to helping children and people in need. In her last position she was a Floyd County advocate for battered women and children. Amy was instrumental in the opening of TLC.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Elks Club and Floyd County Historical Society. Her interests included dancing, participating in various outdoor activities, photography, reading and music. Spending time with her friends was also a very important part of her life. Amy also considered herself as an ambassador of America’s Hometown.
Living family members include her mother, Bonnie Lou Mitchell of Charles City; three siblings, David (Bobbie) Mitchell of Parkersburg, Rebecca Quinn of Johnston and Sara Buggs of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; paternal and maternal grandparents; and special friend Michael Bolger.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Amy Mitchell Fund.
