CRESCO, IOWA — Raymond E. Fulcher, 72, died Sunday, February 21, 1999, at the Regional Health Services Hospital, in Cresco, Iowa.

Raymond Eugene Fulcher was born October 3, 1926, in Charles City, Iowa, to the union of Alfred and Julia (Lensing) Fulcher. The family moved to New Hampton in 1932 and settled in Cresco in 1939 when his father opened a John Deere implement dealership.

Ray graduated from Notre Dame High School in January of 1945 at which time he entered the military serving in the United States Army until 1947. During his tour of duty, Ray was stationed in Korea, Japan, Hawaii and Okinawa. Upon returning to the Cresco area, Ray worked in the John Deere implement business for his dad.

On November 17, 1953, he married Evaline Schmauss Taylor at the Assumption Church in Cresco. Ray was a partner in Ray and Bill’s Standard Service in Cresco for 23 years, from May 1960 until his retirement in May 1983.

He was a longtime member of the Assumption Catholic Church and the Cresco American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Evaline, of Cresco; four stepchildren, Betty Shea and husband, Ken, of Lime Springs, Iowa; Patrick Taylor and wife, Connie, of Cresco, Iowa; Elenor Wubben and husband, Jerry, of Clear Lake, Iowa; and Thomas Taylor and wife, Doris, of Stevens Point, Wis.; one stepdaughter-in-law, Elinor Foote Taylor, of Ionia, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dolores Johnson, of Rockwell, Iowa; and one brother, Donald Fulcher, of Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Julia; one stepson, Rodney Taylor; and one brother, Alphonsus Fulcher.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at the Assumption Catholic Church, in Cresco, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael L. Tauke presiding.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Conway Funeral Home, in Cresco, with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a Scripture service at 6:30 p.m. There will be further visitation one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.
