Thomas Wayne Burnett

MASON CITY, IOWA - Thomas Wayne Burnett, age 48, of Mason City, died Thursday, November 11, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Kathy Graves of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today, November 14, 2010, at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Thomas W. Burnett Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Thomas was born on November 2, 1962, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Roger and Gayle (Rowley) Burnett. The family later moved to New Mexico until returning back to Rockford, where Tom graduated from high school. He then attended two years electrical trade school in Sheldon. Thomas would later receive his master electrician's license. He worked for the City of Mason City for twenty years as an electrician. Tom enjoyed hunting throughout his entire life and looked forward to sporting clays. He was a big fan of sitting around the TV on Sunday afternoons to watch NASCAR and anything on the History Channel.

He also absorbed anything to do with war, planes, and guns. Tom was an avid gunsmith and looked forward to his new gunsmith business. He will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew him.

Tom is survived by his wife, Janet Burnett, of Mason City; two sons, Dillon Burnett and special friend, Jessica Quintus, Paul (Ashley) Schutz; granddaughter, Megan Schutz; his parents, Roger and Gayle Burnett of Rockford; sister, Gwen (Pat) Rooney; mother-in-law, LaVerne Zilge; sister-in-law, Susan (Steven) Wittwer; brother-in-law, Larry (Kathy) Zilge; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father-in-law, Luverne Zilge.

Arrangements are with Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City, 641-423-0924.
