Obituary
Died, at the residence of her son, in this city on Thursday evening September 3, 1903. Mrs. Emiline Calkins Dykeman, aged seventy-seven years, seven months, and seven days.
Mrs. Dykeman was born in Onnondaga County, New York, January 27, 1826, and resided in her childhood home until her marriage with A. N. Dykeman, January 2, 1851. With her husband and little family she came to Iowa in 1864 and settled in Floyd County. There were born to them three sons: Emmett L., now of this city, James E., who died in 1866, and Harrison F., who came from his home in Argyle, Minnesota and was with his mother during her last hours and at her burial.
Mrs. Dykeman had been failing in health for a number of years prior to her decease, but was confined to her bed only during the last three weeks of her life and all the while has been tenderly cared for and watched over by her son and his family to the hour when she found her happy release from the burdens of her later years of bodily and mental ills.
The funeral was held at the home of Emmett L. Dykeman in this city, on Saturday afternoon, September 5. Besides the immediate relatives, a large number of friends of the deceased, especially of aged friends, were present to pay their respects to the memory of a good Christian woman. Reverend W. S. Ralph of the Universalist Church conducted the services and the remains were taken to Orchard for burial beside those of her husband and son, the former having passed away in February, 1882.
