Dorothy was born on March 21, 1924, in Dougherty, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mary (Gallagher) Kelley. She lived in the Dougherty area until her marriage to Vern Jacobson on July 17, 1943. The couple moved to Charles City where she has lived ever since.

Dorothy worked as a technician at Salisbury for 14 years but left to become a homemaker. She took great pride in home and kept it looking beautiful. She was also a wonderful cook who could often be found in the kitchen. Dorothy also had a weakness for homemade ice cream and loved to eat it at any chance she could.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vern, in 1998; daughter, Patricia Kaye Jacobson; and brother, Robert Kelley.
