Dorothy Alida Schmitt

ROCKFORD — Dorothy Alida Schmitt, 79, of Rockford, died Wednesday (July 29, 1998) at her home at 18 Fourth St. N.W., Rockford.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Rockford, with Father Ervin Schmitt and Father Roger Katz as co-celebrants. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. today at Schumburg Funeral Home, Rockford, with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m.

Dorothy was born Nov. 16, 1918, to Walter and Etta (Johnson) Geisler near Hanlontown in Cerro Gordo County.

On Aug. 30, 1939, she was united in marriage to Nicholas J. Schmitt Jr. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City. To this union were born two sons and one daughter.

Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother and a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. She was a member of the steering committee for the formation of the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Community School District.

She is survived by her sons, Nicholas J. III, of Osage, and David W., of Rockford; her daughter, Joan and her husband, Ron Korth, of Randolph, Neb.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Warren Geisler, of Moline, Illinois, and Emery Geisler, of Nora Springs, Iowa; and one sister, Arlis Meyer, of Garner, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1995; two brothers, Donald and Lyle (Pete); a sister, Myrtle Lemke; and one grandchild, David Nicholas Schmitt.
