NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — Ester Rae Mattison, 89, of 115 S. Hawkeye St., Nora Springs, died Thursday (Feb. 12, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Richard Pippert and the Rev. Deborah Stowers, officiating. Inurnment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Long Prairie, Minn., at a later time.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, is in charge of arrangements.

Ester Rae Mattison was born Aug. 29, 1908, in Huron, S.D., the daughter of Earl and Sarah (Baum) Woods. She married Argo Mattison on Dec. 15, 1934, at the YWCA Chapel, Minneapolis, Minn.

Ester enjoyed gardening and volunteer work. She visited folks at the Nora Springs Care Center and Good Shepherd. She was an active member of Nora Springs United Methodist Church for 25 years.

Survivors include her son, Jim Mattison and his wife, Susanne, St. Louis Park, Minn.; two grandchildren, Andy and Dan Mattison, both of St. Louis Park; one brother, Fred Woods and his wife, Betty, of Willmar, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in October, 1995; and an infant daughter.
